Instant Nostalgia is inspired by the landscapes Jing You encounters on her daily walks. While her earlier work expressed inner feelings through flowers and gardens, this series begins with the world around her: the changing evening light, plants along her path, the scent of earth after rain, and subtle shifts in the wind and her surroundings. As she walks, these experiences blend with her emotions and memories, leaving traces within her.

She calls these lingering impressions “sensory echoes.” Her paintings capture the colors she sees, along with the feelings evoked by sounds, scents, and moisture in the air. Three works in the series use Layered Landscape Painting to show how the scene before her and her inner response unfold at the same time. In an instant, the present becomes the past. Nostalgia begins while she is still taking in the landscape: a longing for the very moment she is living.
